How to Keep up With News and Ideas on Business Blogging

Anyone who has gone looking on the web for news and ideas about business or corporate blogging can be excused for finding the experience either frustrating or bewildering, or both.

There is so much information, there are so many opinions. So how can a time-strapped business owner hope to keep up and sift the wheat from the chaff?

One resource I can recommend with absolute confidence is the Business Blog Consulting blog, which was established and is owned by Rick E. Bruner, and now has an array of contributors from the ranks of professional bloggers. I am happy to say I’m one of those contributors, but even if I were not I would still heartily encourage people to check out the site and install the RSS link in their newsfeeds.

This is the blurb from the site - it is in fact a very good summary of what the blog is about:

Business Blog Consulting is a site devoted to demonstrating how effective weblogs can be for communicating with customers and marketing to new customer prospects. You will find here lots of examples of business and corporate blogs, as well as resources to help you learn more about the topic.

Is there a group view of things? No. Is there a chance you will find contributors taking positions at variance with one another? More than a chance - these are bloggers after all, and in my experience bloggers are nothing if not opinionated! And, no doubt wisely, Rick Bruner has added the disclaimer, that he “doesn’t take responsibility for any crazy-ass nonsense (the blog’s) contributors or commenters may post”.

But you will find that the opinions are consistently thoughtful and linked to other resources, so you can do your own checking.

As a quick indication of the range of information and commentary provided, the current list of recent posts is:

  • Is there money in blogs? The discussion hits the WSJ
  • Major Hotel Group Launches TheLobby.com
  • Should Bloggers Be Protected The Same As Traditional Journalists?
  • Free Teleconference on WOM (Word-of-Mouth) Ethics: April 19, 2006
  • TypePad Offers Widgets to Enhance Your Blog

Just working your way down (or up) the left sidebar list of Business Blog Consulting contributors, and checking out their blogs and the resources they offer or link to, would be a great investment of time for anyone wanting to get a handle on what’s happening and what’s coming up in the business (or ‘corporate’ if you prefer) blogging space. I doubt you’d get more, in terms of access to great content, at a two day or longer seminar.

Rick Bruner’s own Executive Summary blog is also well worth a visit and getting the RSS link. Amid the wealth of information and comment there, I found a link to the PresentationZen blog, devoted to professional presentation design. I dearly wish I had discovered that a few days ago, before I finalised and sent off my slide presentation to the MEA Conference organisers.
